16/ 32 - Shanghai, China, 2007

In the UK, this would be mounted on a plinth in a hipster gallery, given a witty title like 'steel pubes' and sold to some twit for £85,000. In China, it is taken to the nearest smelter, where it probably fetches about £85. The appreciation of pointless art remains an area where the Europe and the US retain a strong comparitive advantage over China. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to prevent a decades long decline in western living standards and a radical rebalancing of global wealth and influence.
